Howest Brugge - GWU

Howest is taking an important step toward a sustainable future with the development of a new campus, located near Bruges' railway station. This ambitious project includes both the renovation of the existing campus and a significant expansion, which will enable the college to further strengthen its mission of excellent education and research.

In the pursuit of environmental friendliness and innovation, a partnership was formed with Hydropure to install a gray water unit (GWU) there with a treatment capacity of up to 12m³/day. This plant will allow for efficient water reuse, resulting in a significant reduction in water consumption and the campus' carbon footprint.

Using graywater, which comes from sources such as toilets, showers, and sinks, for non-potable uses such as toilet cleaning and landscape irrigation, is a smart and sustainable solution to save precious drinking water.

Together with Hydropure, Howest is building a future where innovation and sustainability go hand in hand. By investing in green infrastructure and adopting environmentally friendly practices, the college is setting an inspiring example for its students, staff and the broader community. This new campus will not only be a center of knowledge and learning, but also a vibrant hub of sustainable development and positive change.
